极简主义,擅长镜头叙事;
注重电影的文学性,常以画外音、书信、日记等结构形式来体现电影的文本价值(影像的写作);
用疏离和客观的态度呈现日常生活状态,在戏剧的框架下表现哲学议题;
极其注重声音细节(用他自己的话说:影像和声音应以接力方式轮流运作);

从主人公第一句深沉绵长的独白—— “I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong in writing down daily, with absolute frankness, the simplest and insignificant secrets of a life actually lacking any trace of mystery”(我的生活毫无神秘可言。 “Blessed is sin if it teaches me shame”(罪恶,倘若能让我们从中感到羞耻,也是有福的。) (I don’t want him to marry me, because I don’t want to be in the way),一定是让他感到了信仰复苏的可能,因为有爱的地方,上帝是不会缺席的;“上帝不是爱的主人,乃是爱本身”(God is not the master of love. God is love.)
